Stevan's Story in a Timeline

2023

Stevan wins Serbia's first senior-level gold medal in men's freestyle wrestling. He defeats 2018 and 2019 World/2020 Olympic 57kg gold medalist Zaur Uguev in the quarterfinals, the 2022 57kg champion Zelimkhan Abakarov in the semifinals and the 2022 61kg champion Rei Higuchi in the finals. "Golden Boy" Stevan dedicates his victory to his grandmother,  who sadly passed away two weeks before the World Championships in Belgrade. 

2022

Completes his impressive college wrestling career winning the 2022 Big Ten Wrestling Championships with Michigan University.  Wins a bronze medal for Serbia at the 19th Meditarranean Games in Algeria and another bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships in Belgrade. It is Serbia's first world medal in freestyle wrestling!

2021

Wins the prestigeous Poland Open, called "Ziolkowski" World Cup Tournament in Warshaw. Represents Serbia in the 57 kg category in Freestyle at the Olympics in Tokyo. 

2020

Finishes third at the European Championships in Rome (ITA) and fifth at the World Championships in Nur-Sultan (Kazachstan) to qualify for the Olympics. Enrolles in Rackham Graduate School, pursuing a master's degree in sport management  

2019

Wins a silver medal at the European Games in Minsk (BLR) defeating World No.1 Süleyman Atli of Turkey and U23 world bronze medallist Taras Markovych of Ukraine en route . Finishes second at the NCAA National Championships in Pittsburgh. Earns a bachelor's degree in sociology.

2018

Takes a podium (third) at the European Championships in Kaspiyski (RUS). This bronze medal was also Serbia's first ever European medal in freestyle wrestling. Wins another bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona (ES).

Stevan celebrates great success in American Folkstyle Wrestling finishing second at the NCAA National Championships in Cleveland. Wins Big Ten Championships in East Lansing for the Michigan Wolverines.

He holds dual citizenship and chooses to compete for the birth country of his father. 

2017

Finishes third at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington.

2016

Takes third place at the Big Ten Championships (March 4-5) with a 4-1 mark.

2015

Wins a bronze medal for Team USA at the Junior World Championships in El Salvador. 

2014

Graduates from Hanover Central High School. Becomes an Indiana State Champion for the third time in a row. Earns Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. Named Outstanding Wrestler at the 2014 Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic

2013

Finishes on top of the podium again at Indiana State Championships.

2012

Celebrates his first Indiana State Championship title.

1996

Stevan is born on April 4, 1996, in Mesa, Arizona as the first child of Stevan and Lori Micic. In the late 1950s, his grandparents, Stevan and Zagorka Micic, had come to the United States from former Yugoslavia seeking opportunity for themselves and a family they would start. His father was the third of four children who met his mother, who is American from Dubuque, Iowa while out in Phoenix, Arizona.
